The eggbutt hollow mouth jointed snaffle is thought to be one of the simplest bits, and can be good for novice horses or riders as the eggbutt cheek prevents too much vibration from the riders rein being felt by the horse. The lightweight hollow mouth means the horse carries little extra weight on the cheekpieces, and the thicker mouthpiece dissipates the pressure on the bars. The thicker mouthpiece is not ideal to use with a horse with a thicker tongue, but can be good for horses with sensitive bars.
